The right amount of vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin naturally found in animal products, including fish, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, and milk products. As a water-soluble vitamin, vitamin B12 cannot be stored in the body and needs to be regularly present in your diet. If the level of vitamin B12 stays low for a long time, it can damage your nerve cells.

No worries about a possible B12 deficiency, Jake contains the right amount of vitamin B12.

How we make Jake vegan.

All the ingredients in the Jake products are plant-based and picked carefully for their sustainability to make vegan food.

The main ingredient of Jake is oats. The finely ground oats used in Jake are grown on European fields. Oats are considered to be very sustainable, even amongst crops.

Also use in Jake is pea protein. Pea protein is a vegan, non-allergenic (besides potential cross-reactivity with peanut allergy), protein source and also has low environmental impact.
Peas for instance hardly need any fertiliser, as they add nitrogen to the soil itself. Additionally, peas are also less water-intensive than many other protein crops and require less land to be grown.

Pea protein is often not considered a complete protein. It does provide all essential amino acids, but it’s not complete in the sense that it doesn’t provide enough of certain amino acids. And that’s exactly why the amino acid profile is perfect for Jake.

The amino acids that pea protein misses are cysteine and methionine, which are rich in oats – the main ingredient of Jake.

The peas and oats together form a perfect plant-based protein profile. But peas and oats alone are not everything your body needs.
To make sure that the vegan meals contains everything you need we added fats, carbs, vitamins and minerals from our Dutch suppliers. The vitamins and minerals are added according to the recommendations by the European Food Safety Authority. All these ingredients combine to a plant-based shake or bar.

The positive effects of going vegan.

First of all, going vegan has a very positive influence on your health. Studies show that vegans are less likely to have health conditions such as heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Furthermore, it is proven that a vegan diet caused more calories to be burned after meals, which means that going vegan is also highly effective if you’re striving for weight loss.

One of the main reasons to go vegan is to simply prevent animal slaughter and -cruelty. Each year 50 billion animals are reared for food in intensive farms. This is sometimes not only for meat purposes, but also for other products of animal origin like eggs and milk. You’ve probably seen or heard about the shocking images of pigs being pushed around in a cattle farm or the images of many chickens being stuck in very small cages. Together vegans can limit the amount of animals that are bred, locked up, exploited and slaughtered.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) the livestock sector generates 18% of the total release of greenhouse gases worldwide, which is more than for example transport. Furthermore, the livestock sector also is one of the main reasons of environmental problems like soil pollution and water pollution.

Right now, the global livestock sector is growing faster than any other agricultural sector. It currently produces more than four times the quantity of meat as it did fifty years ago. The world’s population on the other hand has only doubled since the 1960s. The growth of these stats are quite concerning, since this means that the amount of greenhouse gasses, water- and land usage is also quadrupled over these years.
It may seem like you as an individual can’t do much about this, but one vegan can already make a serious difference.

The highest risk when going vegan is without a doubt, that you’ll not get enough of all the essential nutrients during the diet, which can cause health problems as well. That’s where Jake comes in. The Jake products contain all the nutrients a human body needs, which means that you can stop worrying about the fact that you won’t consume enough of all the essential nutrients when you go vegan.

No more cooking.

Besides the healthy side, the thing that has to be pointed out is the easiness of creating a plant-based meal replacement with Jake. Not having to cook and still being able to eat a well balanced vegan meal, who wouldn’t want that? The shakes are ready within seconds. Look at the image to see how to prepare a shake.

The Vitaminbar is even easier to prepare: Grab it, tear it and eat it!
